Frequently Asked Questions About Gearbox Replacement
Will a replacement gearbox feel different to my old one?
A properly matched and adapted replacement gearbox should feel crisp, responsive, and quiet. Modern automatics may require a short learning period (approx. 50–100 miles) as the control module fine-tunes shift adaptations to your driving style.
Do I need to replace the clutch or torque converter at the same time?
On manual cars, we strongly advise inspecting and replacing the clutch and dual-mass flywheel while the gearbox is removed, as this saves substantial future labour costs. On automatics, a reconditioned or tested torque converter is fitted to prevent contaminated oil from entering the new transmission.
What warranty is provided with a replacement transmission?
Replacement gearboxes supplied and fitted by Gearbox Giants come with our standard warranty of up to 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever occurs first). Full warranty details are clearly documented on our warranty terms page.
