GEARBOX GIANTS
REPAIR WARRANTY.
Official Gearbox Giants Repair Warranty terms. 12-Month / 12,000-Mile coverage on qualifying full gearbox rebuilds and reconditioned units.
Drive Away With Confidence
At Gearbox Giants, we stand behind the work we carry out. Qualifying full gearbox rebuilds and reconditioned gearbox installations include our 12-Month / 12,000-Mile Gearbox Warranty, whichever occurs first. The exact warranty applicable to your repair will be shown clearly on your quotation and final invoice.
1. What the warranty covers
The Gearbox Giants warranty covers faults arising from the workmanship carried out by Gearbox Giants and defects affecting parts supplied and fitted by us as part of the repair specified on your invoice.
Warranty cover applies only to the components and work forming part of the authorised repair. A warranty on a gearbox repair does not mean that every component connected to the gearbox, transmission or vehicle is automatically covered.
2. Full gearbox rebuilds and reconditioned units
Qualifying full gearbox rebuilds and Gearbox Giants-supplied reconditioned gearbox installations for privately used vehicles are covered for:
12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of completion, whichever occurs first.
3. Component and fault-specific repairs
Where Gearbox Giants carries out a targeted repair rather than a complete gearbox rebuild, the warranty applies to the specific components replaced and workmanship undertaken. Unless stated otherwise on the invoice, qualifying component repairs are covered for:
6 months or 6,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
4. Used or salvage components
Used, salvage or customer-requested second-hand gearbox units and components may carry a shorter warranty. The applicable warranty will be confirmed on the quotation or invoice before installation.
5. Commercial and intensive-use vehicles
Vehicles used commercially or under unusually intensive operating conditions may carry different warranty terms. Unless otherwise confirmed in writing, qualifying repairs on taxis, private-hire vehicles, driving-school vehicles, multi-drop delivery vehicles and other intensive commercial-use vehicles are covered for:
6 months or 6,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
6. What is not automatically covered
The warranty does not automatically cover faults or components that were not included in the original authorised repair.
This can include unrelated electrical or electronic faults, wiring, sensors, ECUs or TCUs, clutches, flywheels, torque converters, mechatronic units, cooling systems, mounts, driveshafts, CV joints, external leaks or other vehicle components unless the relevant item was specifically repaired or replaced by Gearbox Giants and is identified on the invoice.
Normal deterioration, routine servicing and consumable or wear-related items are not covered unless a failure results from a defect in a component supplied by us or our workmanship.
7. Pre-existing and unrelated faults
Modern transmission systems contain mechanical, hydraulic and electronic systems which interact with other parts of the vehicle. A new or continuing symptom does not necessarily mean that the original repaired component has failed.
Where a vehicle returns with a problem during the warranty period, Gearbox Giants may inspect and diagnose the vehicle to determine whether the fault relates to the original repair. If the problem is unrelated to the warranted work, any further diagnosis or repair will be discussed and authorised separately.
8. Vehicle modifications and misuse
Warranty cover may not apply where the claimed failure has been caused or materially contributed to by misuse, accident damage, collision, water ingress, overheating, incorrect fluid, inadequate maintenance, racing, track use, off-road competition, towing beyond the manufacturer's limits or modifications which place the transmission outside its intended operating conditions.
Performance tuning, engine remapping, gearbox software modification or hardware modification should be disclosed to Gearbox Giants before repair.
9. Maintenance
The vehicle must be maintained reasonably and in accordance with any servicing or transmission-maintenance instructions provided by Gearbox Giants and, where relevant, the vehicle manufacturer's requirements.
Failure to carry out maintenance will not automatically invalidate an unrelated claim, but warranty cover may not apply where inadequate or incorrect maintenance caused or contributed to the failure.
10. Warning signs
If a transmission warning light appears, the vehicle loses drive, develops a major leak, overheats or begins making significant abnormal noises, the customer should stop using the vehicle where it is unsafe or where continued use may cause further damage and contact Gearbox Giants as soon as reasonably possible.
Damage caused by continuing to operate a vehicle after a serious fault becomes apparent may fall outside the additional warranty where that continued use caused or materially increased the damage.
11. Making a warranty claim
Customers should contact Gearbox Giants as soon as reasonably possible after becoming aware of a suspected warranty issue. We must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect the vehicle and establish the cause of the problem.
Where practical, warranty inspection and repair should be carried out by Gearbox Giants or a repairer authorised by Gearbox Giants. Customers should obtain authorisation before arranging third-party dismantling or repair where they intend to claim the cost through the Gearbox Giants warranty.
12. Recovery and additional expenses
Unless agreed by Gearbox Giants in writing beforehand, the additional Gearbox Giants warranty itself does not include reimbursement for vehicle recovery, third-party diagnostics, third-party repairs, hire vehicles, travel, accommodation or loss of earnings. This does not remove any rights or remedies a customer may have under applicable law.
13. Warranty remedy
Where Gearbox Giants confirms that a fault is covered by the warranty, we will normally repair or replace the affected warranted component as appropriate. The appropriate remedy will depend on the nature of the fault and the work originally carried out.
14. Replacement warranty period
Work completed as a remedy under this additional warranty normally continues under the remaining period of the original Gearbox Giants warranty rather than automatically beginning a new 12-month warranty period, unless Gearbox Giants confirms otherwise in writing. Any statutory rights applying to the subsequent work remain unaffected.
15. Mileage
The recorded vehicle mileage at the time the repair is completed will be shown on the invoice. Where accurate mileage cannot be established, or an odometer has been replaced, altered or stopped functioning, Gearbox Giants may require reasonable supporting evidence to determine warranty eligibility.
16. Transfer
Unless agreed otherwise in writing, the additional Gearbox Giants warranty is provided to the customer named on the invoice for the vehicle identified on that invoice.
17. Your statutory rights
The Gearbox Giants warranty is provided in addition to the customer's statutory rights. Nothing in these warranty terms is intended to exclude or restrict rights which cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted under UK consumer law.
