Understanding Repair vs. Reconditioning vs. Replacement
01
What Does Gearbox Reconditioning Actually Mean?: Gearbox reconditioning involves completely disassembling the transmission casing, thoroughly cleaning all internal casings and sub-assemblies, and replacing all wear components — including bearings, seals, gaskets, synchromesh rings, friction plates, and damaged gears — before reassembling to original manufacturer clearance tolerances.
02
When is Reconditioning the Right Choice?: When a transmission suffers widespread internal wear (such as bearing metal contamination throughout an automatic or catastrophic synchromesh failure in a manual), targeted component repair is insufficient. A full recondition restores the complete unit reliably without the excessive cost of purchasing a brand-new factory unit from a franchised main dealership.
03
Repair vs Reconditioning vs Replacement Comparison:
- Targeted Repair: Addresses an isolated faulty component (e.g. replacing a single mechatronic valve body or one shaft bearing) where the rest of the unit is completely healthy.
- Full Reconditioning: Complete internal rebuild replacing all wearable items, bearings, friction materials, and seals to OEM tolerances.
- Unit Replacement: Exchanging your faulty transmission with a pre-reconditioned matching exchange unit to minimize turnaround time.
04
Turnaround & Warranty Protection: Turnaround is job-dependent, typically taking between 3 to 7 working days following diagnostic assessment and parts availability. Qualifying full reconditioned units for private vehicles include our 12-Month / 12,000-Mile Warranty; commercial vehicles carry a 6-Month / 6,000-Mile Warranty.

TRANSMISSION GUIDANCE & OVERVIEW
01
What Determines the Reconditioning Quote?: The cost of reconditioning depends on:
- The transmission family (Manual, Automatic, DSG, or CVT).
- Whether internal casing housings are damaged and require specialist machining.
- Electronic module condition (mechatronic or TCU programming requirements).
- Availability of OEM or approved OE-equivalent component overhaul kits.

Official Warranty Protection: WARRANTY INCLUDED ON QUALIFYING REPAIRS
Qualifying full gearbox rebuilds and reconditioned gearbox installations for private passenger vehicles include our 12-Month / 12,000-Mile Warranty (whichever occurs first), covering parts and specialist workmanship.
Commercial/intensive-use vehicles (taxis, fleets, delivery vehicles) carry our 6-Month / 6,000-Mile Warranty.
