No Fixed Gears: Seamless Pulleys & Belts: A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) works differently from a conventional manual or automatic gearbox. Instead of shifting between individual fixed gears (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.), a CVT uses a high-strength steel belt or chain running between two adjustable, cone-shaped pulleys.

Why CVT Problems Need Specialist Attention: Because CVTs rely on smooth hydraulic pressure and precision metal-on-metal friction between the steel belt and pulley faces, degraded transmission oil or valve body wear can cause the belt to slip or score the pulley sheaves.

- Fluid Degradation & Filter Blockage: CVT fluid requires strict anti-wear properties. Old or overheated fluid reduces hydraulic clamping force on the pulleys.
- Hydraulic Valve Body Wear: Pressure-regulating valves and stepper motors inside the valve body can wear, leading to unstable pulley movement.
- Pulley Sheave & Belt Wear: The contact faces between the steel belt and conical pulleys can become grooved or polished smooth, causing drive slip.
