What Does Transmission Limp Mode Feel Like?
- Restricted available gears: The transmission may stay in one specific gear, lock out higher gears, or disable odd/even gear sets.
- Reduced vehicle acceleration: The engine management system may restrict engine speed (RPM) or torque output.
- Dashboard warning message: A message such as "Gearbox Malfunction: Limited Performance" or a flashing gear indicator appears.
- Temporary reset after cycling ignition: Turning the ignition off and on may temporarily clear the display until the underlying condition is detected again.

When Driving May Be Sensible

If the vehicle is losing drive, behaving unpredictably, overheating, making loud grinding noises, or if the dashboard explicitly instructs you to stop, pull over safely and arrange assistance. The manufacturer's dashboard message and owner's manual take priority.
